THE LAUREL ALUMNAE CHAPTER

DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC.

 

The Laurel-Hattiesburg Alumnae of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, was established in Laurel, Mississippi, on Saturday, November 12, 1966. Sorors Hargie Ann Davis and Yvonne J. Terrell were instrumental in establishing the chapter. Graduate Sorors of the Laurel and Hattiesburg area were invited to affilate. The Director of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Soror Fannye J. Harris, served as the national installing officer. The official name of the chapter was changed to Laurel Alumnae in 2004.

The Chapter Sponsors Founders Day observances in Janaury/February and has featured oustanding speakers many of who have been Deltas.

Scholarship awards are given annually and we have contributed to the Delta Distingusied Professor Chair.

The Sorority sponsors civic projects that help to show the impact of our Five-Point Thrust in the Community.

We have two members with more than 50years as a Delta, 12 or more members with 25 years as Deltas, five Golden Life Members and 13 Diamond Life Members.

The chapter has been represented at all Regional Conferences and National Conventions.
