
The Laurel Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. provides an extensive array of public service initiatives through our Five-Point Program Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Social Action/Political Awareness and Involvement. Listed below are our program committees and responsibilities:
MEMBERSHIP SERVICES
Purpose: To plan and implement activities or social events to promote sisterly cohesiveness and retention of all members.
PROGRAMMING PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Purpose: Survey needs, evaluate findings and make recommendations to the Chapter of projects to be undertaken commensurate with aims, purposes ad resources of the Sorority; develop and coordinate projects that are consistent with the long range plan and the priorities as approved by the Grand Chapter.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Purpose: To develop and implement programs and activities that benefit the community and are directly aligned with economics.
EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Purpose: To develop and implement programs and activities that benefit the community and are directly aligned with education.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH
Purpose: To develop and implement programs and activities that benefit the community and are directly aligned with physical and mental health.
POLITICAL INVOLVEMENT AND AWARENESS
Purpose: To develop and implement programs and activities that benefit the community and are directly aligned with politics.
INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS AND INVOLVEMENT
Purpose: To develop and implement programs and activities that informs the community of international concerns.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Purpose: To receive and evaluate recommendations for changes in the Policies, Standards, and Procedures for Chapter vote and submission to the Regional member of Scholarship and Standards.
DIRECTORY/CONTACT
Purpose: To provide members with readily accessible and up-to-date information regarding chapter committees and member contact.
SCHOLARSHIP
Purpose: To set criteria for the disbursement of those funds raised and set aside for scholarships; to solicit, identify, and evaluate the qualifications of those persons requesting financial assistance for education.
DELTA ACADEMY
Purpose: To address the needs of young African American women in grades 6th -8th. This program is designed to promote high levels of academic success, assist with goal setting, and develop compassionate, caring, community-minded young women.
DELTA GEMS
Purpose: To address the needs of young African American women in grades 9th-12th. This program is designed to promote high levels of academic success, assist with goal setting, and develop compassionate, caring, community-minded young women.
EMBODI
Purpose: Designed to assist African American males to reach their fullest potential educationally, socially, and emotionally.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Purpose: Recieve recommendations from members for chapter offices, prepare ballots for all elections, and tally election results.
PUBLICITY & PUBLIC RELATIONS
Purpose: To notify Chapter members of important or emergency events by phone and/or email between Chapter meetings, distribute news releases of the Chapter’s activities to local news media, and maintain the Chapter’s website.
BUDGET AND FINANCE
Purpose: To develop, present, and modify the Chapter budget, as well as, make recommendations on financial policy to the Chapter.
COURTESY AND HOSPITALITY
Purpose: To send appropiate courtesy gift to members experiencing sickness, joyous, or unfortunate event.
RITUAL AND CEREMONY
Purpose: To increase members’ knowledge and appreciation of the fundamental principles of the Sorority’s basic belief system as demonstrated in the Delta Sigma Theta Ritual, ceremonies, rites, traditions, and protocol.
HISTORY, ARCHIVES, SCRAPBOOK & DISPLAYS
Purpose: To preserve the history of the chapter and chronologically archive events sponsored by chapter through scrapbooks or displays.
SOCIAL ACTION
Purpose: To keep chapter updated with political endeavors throughout the community.
AUDIT
Purpose: To nominate an independent auditor, audit the Chapter’s financial records, and submit a written report of the findings to the Executive Board.
TECHNOLOGY
Purpose: To develop and maintain chapter website and all social media activities.
